Comer: FEMA Discriminated Against Trump Supporters in Disaster Aid
During a House Oversight Committee hearing, Congressman James Comer (R-KY) accused FEMA of discriminating against Trump supporters in disaster relief efforts. Comer expressed outrage after FEMA Administrator Dan Criswell testified about claims that FEMA staffers skipped homes displaying Trump signs during responses to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
“This is a pattern,” Comer stated. He cited a whistleblower who claimed a FEMA worker in Georgia told residents, “You need to get rid of those Trump signs in your yard, or nobody’s going to help you with FEMA.”
Comer revealed similar reports from Florida. Congressman Greg Steube informed him that more than ten constituents felt targeted for showing support for Trump. “I don’t believe that FEMA worker would send such a message unless confident this was common practice,” Comer added.

Jim Jordan (R-OH) questioned Criswell directly. She admitted she had not spoken to anyone involved in the incident. Comer criticized this response as inadequate, especially after new whistleblower allegations surfaced during the testimony.
“This isn’t just about FEMA,” Comer argued. He stated that similar behavior has been seen in other agencies like the DOJ, IRS, and FBI. “The Biden-Harris administration has fostered a culture of discrimination against conservatives. This is more than censoring speech. They’ve denied government services to conservatives,” he claimed.
Comer drew a sharp comparison. “If a Republican administration instructed FEMA to skip homes with trans flags, it would be front-page news. Democrats would be outraged,” he said.
The hearing revealed growing Republican concerns about federal agencies’ impartiality. Comer emphasized that the Oversight Committee would investigate further. “We need accountability and answers,” he concluded.
