Former President Donald Trump was shot in the ear Saturday evening while speaking onstage at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in an incident that’s being investigated as an assassination attempt from a shooter on a roof near the rally site. Trump was in the middle of delivering his rally speech when the sound of multiple gunshots suddenly rang out at approximately 6:15 p.m. ET.

The FBI has called the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally an attempted assassination. Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, stated at a news conference in Butler, Pennsylvania, that authorities are “working feverishly to attempt to identify the individual who did this and any motives behind why this was done,” and urged the public to provide any information that might help.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old suspect in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, hailed from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. A high school graduate from the class of 2022, Crooks earned a $500 “star award” from the National Math and Science Initiative. Despite being a registered Republican, he only participated in the 2022 state election. Crooks had no prior criminal record or traffic citations.
