Trump’s Plan: Cut Off Cartel Cash, Target Fentanyl Labs
Former Acting ICE Director Jonathan Fahey joined The Ingraham Angle to discuss the Trump administration’s aggressive stance against Mexican drug cartels and the fentanyl crisis. Fahey emphasized that Mexico must reconsider its position, as Trump is treating cartel activity as a direct threat to American security. Unlike the previous administration, which he argued allowed cartels to operate freely, Trump is cracking down by targeting their finances and operations.
Mexico Faces Pressure to Cooperate
Fahey noted that Mexican officials are already pushing back, warning against any U.S. military action within their borders. However, he believes the country has little choice but to cooperate. “The cartels have more power than the government, and Mexico is afraid to go after them,” he said. With Trump’s policies restricting illegal border crossings and cutting off cartel revenue streams, Fahey suggested that Mexico will eventually have to align with the administration’s crackdown.
Beyond border security, the Trump administration is considering more direct action. Fahey pointed out that just as the U.S. targeted cocaine production in the past, fentanyl labs could face similar consequences. The administration may use military resources to dismantle cartel operations, with or without Mexico’s help.
Fentanyl Crisis Demands Strong Action
Fahey highlighted the devastating toll fentanyl has taken on American communities. “Seventy thousand people are dying each year from fentanyl, and 100,000 from drugs overall,” he said, blaming the Biden administration’s lax policies for allowing the crisis to escalate. He explained that Trump’s strategy includes not only border enforcement but also financial sanctions against those supporting the cartels. Banks that facilitate cartel transactions could face severe penalties, further crippling their operations.
China also plays a key role in the crisis, supplying the precursor chemicals used to manufacture fentanyl. Fahey stated that Trump is prepared to take action against Chinese entities contributing to the epidemic, reinforcing his commitment to stopping the flow of deadly drugs into the U.S.
As the administration moves forward, Fahey warned that those involved in fentanyl production should be concerned. “These fentanyl cookers better look up,” he said, hinting at possible military intervention. He concluded that Trump is taking the issue seriously and won’t back down in the fight to protect American lives.
