Newt Gingrich: Trump’s renewed focus could flip New York in 2024 election
In a recent appearance on The Ingraham Angle, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich shared his thoughts on Donald Trump’s energized campaign and growing sense of mission as he addressed voters in New York. Gingrich noted Trump’s renewed optimism, attributing it to both the current political climate and personal experiences that have deepened his resolve.
Laura observed a shift in Trump’s demeanor, stating, “I don’t think I’ve seen Donald Trump as upbeat, just having a great time in his home state asking for people’s votes.” Gingrich echoed this sentiment, explaining that Trump believes he has a real shot at winning New York. “He believes he has a real chance to carry New York because of the corruption, the white liberal policies, and the impact of all those millions of illegal immigrants and the crime that has followed,” Gingrich said, further emphasizing how a major scandal surrounding New York City’s mayor is creating political challenges for Democrats.

Gingrich also connected Trump’s focus on policy to his personal resilience. He highlighted the assassination attempts Trump survived, saying, “This is a guy who has twice avoided being killed… I think President Trump now has a deeper sense of a mission and a deeper sense of having to do what’s right for America.” Gingrich referenced historical figures like Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II, suggesting that such life-threatening experiences can profoundly influence a leader’s sense of purpose.
Ingraham praised Trump’s message during the event, particularly his appeal to independent voters. “He reminded everyone what a great state New York is… and said, ‘I’ll work with Democrats, independents, I’ll work with anyone to restore this state.’ That is the kind of rhetoric that I think a lot of independent voters, a lot of women have been waiting to hear directly from him,” she remarked.

Gingrich agreed, pointing out Trump’s deep ties to New York. “He loves the state. He loves the city. He spent most of his life there,” Gingrich noted. He also emphasized that Trump sees this moment as an opportunity for significant change, arguing that the failures of the Biden-Harris administration have created a chance for Trump to reshape the country.
