Mike Lee on Harris: ‘Miraculous Rise, But Where’s the Substance?’

In a recent segment of The Ingraham Angle on Fox News, Utah Senator Mike Lee shared his thoughts on Vice President Kamala Harris’s political trajectory, highlighting a critical perspective on her approach to the upcoming presidential election. The discussion, led by host Laura Ingraham, delved into Harris’s public image, her campaign strategy, and how it contrasts with former President Donald Trump’s candidacy.

Senator Lee opened the conversation by expressing his astonishment at what he perceives as the uniqueness of Harris’s rise within the Democratic Party. “It was miraculous,” Lee remarked, noting that Harris appears to be the first major party nominee in modern history to secure her position without articulating a clear policy stance, participating in primary elections, or holding press conferences. Lee’s critique centered on Harris’s reluctance to publicly commit to specific policies, suggesting that her campaign strategy is driven more by optics than substance.

Lee further predicted that Harris might only present her policy positions when advised to do so by her consultants, pollsters, or focus groups. “I kept waiting. I’m still waiting for her to state coherently a single policy position,” Lee added, emphasizing his belief that Harris’s campaign lacks a clear vision or concrete policy proposals. This, according to Lee, contrasts sharply with what he sees as a necessary and meaningful engagement with the American electorate.

Ingraham then brought up an article from The New Republic that praised Harris as a “Female Obama” and even compared her to President John F. Kennedy. The article’s portrayal of Harris as a historic and poised figure was met with skepticism by both Ingraham and Lee. The senator questioned the media’s portrayal of Harris, arguing that it elevates her based on superficial qualities rather than substantive achievements. “You can just feel the joy and the vibes,” Lee said sarcastically, underscoring his view that Harris’s candidacy is more about emotional appeal than policy-driven leadership.

Lee contrasted Harris’s approach with that of Donald Trump, suggesting that while Harris’s campaign is centered around “joy and vibes,” Trump’s campaign is grounded in a clear vision for America’s future. He argued that voters who seek a president with a deep understanding of governmental failures and a plan to address them should support Trump. “If, on the other hand, you want someone who has a vision for America and an understanding of how the United States government has failed the American people… you should support Donald Trump,” Lee stated, positioning Trump as the candidate with the capability to lead effectively.

The segment concluded with a discussion on the broader political landscape, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s endorsement of Trump. Lee described this endorsement as significant, suggesting it signals a shift in American political dynamics and where the electorate’s support might lie.
