Byron York: Democrats will get desperate as January 20 gets closer
In a recent segment on The Ingraham Angle, Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, shared critical insights into the Democratic Party’s strategies leading up to the 2024 election. York described how Democrats initially reacted to Donald Trump’s victory before quickly returning to their usual resistance tactics.
Reflecting on their response to Trump’s previous win, York said, “I do think for just a few minutes in the shock after Donald Trump’s victory, there were some Democrats who thought, well, maybe we ought to give it a rest for a little while.” This cautious stance didn’t last long. According to York, “That thinking lasted about ten minutes.” Comparing it to sports, York explained the Democratic approach as “muscle memory,” emphasizing their tendency to “attack, attack, attack.”
York speculated that Democrats might use drastic measures, such as invoking the 14th Amendment, to block Trump’s 2024 path. “I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some sort of Hail Mary thing with the 14th Amendment. Who knows what they might try,” he noted. He suggested they may grow more “desperate as the weeks go by.”
York also commented on the Democratic Party’s lack of a clear leader heading into the 2028 election. He pointed out that, following potential losses in Congress and the White House, “There’s no leader for the Democratic Party right now.” This lack of representation would leave them “completely aced out in the House and the Senate.”
York’s observations emphasize that Democrats might struggle to unify without strong leadership, especially if they continue to rely on what he described as their “attack, attack, attack” reflex. He paints a picture of a party facing significant challenges as it navigates an election landscape where opposition to Trump may not be enough.
