Ramaswamy Warns: U.S. Free Speech at Risk from Domestic Actors
In a recent episode of ‘The Inghram Angle,’ Vivek Ramaswamy discussed the state of free speech in the U.S. and abroad.
The former GOP candidate pointed out the irony of Western leaders, who champion democratic values abroad, yet remain silent about free speech violations in allied countries like France and Brazil.
“One of the most mysterious parts of this, Laura, is some of the most vocal proponents of the U.S. preventing authoritarianism abroad, have nothing to say about the censorship and banning of a platform like X in Brazil,” he said.
“This is part of a broader trend. You look at Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, arrested in France, allegedly for at least violating some of their dictums relating to the suppression of free speech. He wasn’t arrested in Russia. He was arrested in France, an ally of the United States.”
Gamaldi: Harris’ Policies Fuel Rising Violence Against Police
Ramaswamy added: “So I do think there’s an irony tbat the very people who preach the importance of freedom and democracy and spreading that abroad happen to be the ones who are most silent when it comes to actually defending democratic norms. Even amongst our allied nations, from France to Brazil to Canada to the UK.”
He further expressed his opinion on the importance of free speech by arguing that he believes governments should not control what citizens can or cannot see.
“I think America is at our strongest when we stand on that core principle. And I think this rises above just the Republican versus Democrat issue,” Ramaswamy explained. “But if we’re committed to free speech, that means we’re committed to free speech. That’s who we are as Americans. And I proudly call myself an absolutist when it comes to the First Amendment.”
J.D. Vance Warns: Kamala Harris Will ‘Blunder Us Into World War III’
Ramaswamy even suggested that the greatest threats to America aren’t flowing in from the outside.
“It’s an interesting moment for us in the West and in the United States when the greatest threats to the U.S. aren’t coming from Russia or anywhere else, they’re coming from right here at home for our own government actors that are violating our own enshrined principles to achieve their own, I would say narrow minded ends, especially on the left.”
