Vivek Ramaswamy Calls for ‘Modern Declaration’ on Financial Freedom
On a recent segment of The Ingraham Angle, Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called for a bold shift in how America tackles its growing debt. He warned that while small budget cuts may sound good, they’re insignificant against a national debt projected to hit $60 trillion within a decade.
“This is like picking a barnacle off the back of a whale,” Ramaswamy said. “We’re going to have to have the courage to take on independence from the federal entitlement state. That’s what we actually need to be talking about.”
Ramaswamy argued that minor fiscal reforms aren’t enough. With annual deficits around $2 trillion, the nation is on an unsustainable path. He emphasized that structural change is essential.
Interest Now Costs More Than Defense
According to Ramaswamy, financial markets already see the warning signs. “We’re paying more on interest payments right now than the entire U.S. military budget,” he noted. That reality, he said, should alarm every taxpayer.
He also urged Americans to look ahead to 2026, when the country will mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. “That kid born next year is going to grow up into a country where that debt is on their shoulders,” he said. “They’re not going to have money for Social Security or Medicare because we’ll have run out.”
His solution? A new kind of revolution—one based on wealth, not government aid. “We need to ask how we create that generation that is so financially successful that they declare independence from the federal nanny state,” Ramaswamy said. “That’s the Declaration of Independence we really need.”
He hopes to start in Ohio by building a model for financial independence. It’s a path, he said, that leads to real prosperity—not dependence.
