In a recent segment on The Ingraham Angle, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley expressed serious concerns regarding the U.S. Secret Service’s handling of security protocols surrounding former President Donald Trump. In conversation with host Laura Ingraham, Hawley highlighted critical lapses in protection during two high-profile incidents, raising doubts about the agency’s ability to safeguard one of the nation’s key political figures.

The discussion opened with Ingraham referencing the recent event in which a shooter had been present near Trump’s golf course for 12 hours before being apprehended. Hawley responded with disbelief at the notion that the security measures were effective. He emphasized that the area was not unfamiliar to the Secret Service, as it was a regular spot for Trump. “How you can say it’s effective when the shooter was able to be there for 12 hours, I don’t know,” Hawley remarked. He pointed out the alarming failure to detect and neutralize the shooter sooner, comparing this situation to the troubling security breach at the Butler rally.

Hawley continued to criticize the Secret Service, particularly regarding the Butler rally, where a shooter had accessed the roof of a building without any law enforcement presence. “The facts are devastating, and there are no answers,” Hawley said, underscoring the lack of accountability. He noted that despite a whistleblower report exposing these shortcomings, the Secret Service had not provided Congress or the public with any substantive answers regarding these incidents.

The conversation also touched on a whistleblower’s revelation that excessive heat on the day of the Butler rally was used as an excuse for failing to station agents on the roof. Hawley dismissed this reasoning as unacceptable, stating, “So because of that, the former president gets shot in the face and a good man is dead?” He expressed frustration at the Secret Service’s slow response to inquiries and their apparent reluctance to admit their errors.

Hawley further criticized the agency’s personnel decisions, revealing that the lead agent responsible for Trump’s security at the Butler rally was widely distrusted by other Secret Service agents. He questioned why someone lacking credibility and competence was given such a crucial assignment.

The senator concluded by calling for more transparency from the Secret Service and an immediate review of their protocols, warning that continued stonewalling would only deepen the public’s mistrust of federal agencies. As concerns mount over the agency’s handling of security, Hawley’s comments add significant pressure for accountability and reform.
