DeSantis: Florida Leads the Fight to Secure Borders and End Illegal Immigration
In a recent segment on The Ingraham Angle, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis underscored his unwavering commitment to addressing illegal immigration, aligning with President Trump’s administration to bring a decisive resolution to the border crisis. Speaking about the Pentagon’s decision to deploy 1,500 active-duty troops to the southern border, DeSantis characterized the move as “a great start,” emphasizing the importance of treating the border crisis as both a military and law enforcement issue.
DeSantis stated, “Under Donald Trump, the military’s mission is not just simply to be halfway around the world defending borders, but actually to defend our own borders.” He further commended the administration for designating cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, a move he believes signals a strong and clear message to those attempting to exploit America’s immigration system. DeSantis confidently declared, “This problem is going to be put to bed once and for all. That’s what the American people voted for.”
Rejecting the Left’s Narrative
When asked about the predictable media narratives surrounding immigration, DeSantis did not mince words. He criticized the left for relying on emotional appeals and outdated tactics to shift public opinion, such as depicting immigration enforcement as cruel or targeting clergy. “What else are they going to do?” he asked rhetorically, noting that the left has consistently ignored the tangible consequences of illegal immigration, including increased crime rates, overcrowded schools, and strained healthcare systems.
DeSantis pointed out that Americans have never consented to the influx of millions of illegal immigrants. “Do we govern ourselves or not? This is a fundamental question,” he remarked. Highlighting the recent congressional vote on the Lake and Riley Act, DeSantis expressed frustration with Democrats’ opposition to commonsense measures that would deport illegal immigrants who commit crimes. “Who could possibly object to that?” he questioned, emphasizing the political consequences of such positions. He also criticized legacy media outlets for ignoring the voices of Americans who have suffered due to illegal immigration, stating, “They don’t like to talk to the angel moms who’ve lost kids from illegal alien crime.”
Florida’s Leadership on Immigration
Shifting the focus to Florida, DeSantis detailed the state’s proactive measures to combat illegal immigration. During his tenure, Florida has banned sanctuary cities and enacted some of the strongest anti-illegal immigration laws in the country. Despite initial predictions from critics that these measures would harm the state’s economy, DeSantis noted that Florida has thrived. “We’ve grown dramatically since then,” he said, adding that Florida remains a national model for effective immigration policies.
Looking ahead, DeSantis highlighted the need to eliminate remaining incentives for illegal immigration. One of his top priorities is repealing a decade-old provision that grants in-state college tuition to undocumented immigrants. “We’ve gotten rid of almost all [incentives],” he stated, emphasizing the urgency of aligning state policies with Trump’s federal initiatives.
DeSantis also criticized Florida legislative leaders for “dragging their feet” on implementing further measures. He revealed that he had called for a special session to address these issues, only to face resistance from some lawmakers who deemed the actions “premature.” In response, DeSantis firmly stated, “It’s not premature. We’ve been waiting for years to have a partner in Washington, D.C., on this issue. No more dragging your feet. Let’s do it.”
The governor’s sense of urgency reflects his belief that voters demand immediate action on illegal immigration. “Imagine having to explain to a Republican voter… that it’s not time-sensitive. Nobody is going to accept that,” he said. DeSantis vowed to ensure that Florida legislators fulfill their mandate to support Trump’s immigration agenda.
A Rare Blizzard in Florida
In a lighter moment, DeSantis shared an anecdote about the unexpected snowfall in Florida, which broke state records. “We more than doubled the previous record,” he noted, adding that his children had enjoyed building snowmen at the governor’s residence. While the snow brought joy to many, DeSantis urged caution on the roads, as Floridians are unaccustomed to driving in such conditions.
With a focus on decisive action and leadership, DeSantis continues to position Florida at the forefront of efforts to secure the nation’s borders. His approach serves as a blueprint for how states can partner with the federal government to uphold the rule of law and protect American sovereignty.
