So Much for the ‘Guardians of Democracy’

Each party has its own method of picking a nominee. The Republican Party holds caucuses and primaries, and then gives its nomination to the candidate who best represents the views of its voters. For three cycles in a row, the GOP has had a profound and intense debate over every possible issue, from trade to immigration to war. And in each cycle, the Republican voters have made very clear that they agree with Donald Trump. Thus, he has won his party’s nomination three times in a row.

Over on the Democratic side, they do things differently. For them, as we are witnessing, primaries and caucuses are trivial compared to coup-like attempts to dislodge the candidate who gets the most votes. It’s easy to forget now, but the Democrats did have a series of primaries and caucuses – and Joe Biden won almost all of them. And, prior to Biden’s disastrous debate with President Trump, the people who run the Democratic Party were prepared to let Biden be renominated.

Our Not-So Secret, Secret Service Crisis

But now they are desperate to force Biden to step down. Apparently, leaks to the press from Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and Barack Obama count for more than the millions of votes Biden won in the primaries. Even now, these profiles in cowardice are not willing to go on the record and state publicly that they want Biden to leave – or why they think he should leave. But in the not-so-Democratic Party, apparently they don’t have to – leaks and anonymous quotes are enough.

Let’s be clear about a few points:

  1. Biden is just as healthy and just as capable of doing the job today as he was before his debate with President Trump. Obama, Schumer, and Pelosi knew that he was incompetent weeks ago. In fact, they’ve known it for years. But they didn’t care so long as it didn’t threaten their hold on power. What changed for Biden wasn’t his competence – he’s never been competent. What’s changed is that he is now a threat to the Democratic Party.
  2. To solve this threat, the power brokers in the Democratic Party apparently intend to give the nomination to Kamala Harris. That is ludicrous. Harris hasn’t won a single primary. She hasn’t persuaded a single delegate. She tried to run in the 2020 cycle, and was utterly humiliated – dropping out even before the Iowa caucuses. And according to the Regime Media, her performance as VP has been abysmal.

What Republican could write a better attack ad than this article from last fall (imagine the dramatic voice over!) — Ease and confidence have not been the prevailing themes of Harris’s vice presidency. Her first year on the job was defined by rhetorical blunders, staff turnover, political missteps, and a poor sense among even her allies of what, exactly, constituted her portfolio. Within months of taking office, President Joe Biden was forced to confront a public perception that Harris didn’t measure up; ultimately, the White House issued a statement insisting that Biden did, in fact, rely on his vice president as a governing partner. But Harris’s reputation has never quite recovered.

  1. Again, the people who really run things in the Democratic Party know that Harris is incompetent, just like they know that Biden is incompetent. But they don’t care. They just want something to change the narrative. And Harris would certainly do that. She would change the White House from a place where Staff ignore the President to a place where Staff actively hate the President.
  2. Let me be clear: no one who truly loves this country – no one who truly wants what is best for the American people – would ever subject us to someone like Kamala Harris. Not a single person in DC – not a single person in any government office anywhere in the world, including Beijing or Moscow – actually believes that she is capable of doing the job. The best-case scenario is that she would be a puppet who simply does what the bureaucracy, the media, and the donors tell her to do. The worst-case scenario is that she will bring the chaos she sowed in her disastrous presidential campaign – and in her time as VP – directly into the Oval Office.
  3. Now, for a contrast, look at what you saw at the RNC in Milwaukee. Yes, we’ve had a lot of hard-fought policy debates. Yes, there have been times where we disagreed – and disagreed strongly. But we had those debates in the open. Republicans never tried to fix things by hiding from the voters and leaking to the press. And as you heard from J.D. Vance last night, Republicans have a realistic plan to make things better for Americans:
    • We need a small and efficient government, because we shouldn’t be wasting the taxpayers’ money.
    • We need strong borders, so that Big Business cannot drive down wages by bringing in an unlimited supply of workers.
    • We need an America First trade policy, so that Big Business can’t ship your jobs overseas.
    • We need a realistic foreign policy, where our soldiers’ lives aren’t being wasted and our resources are being used wisely.
  4. This agenda is not theoretical. We know it works. Today the Washington Post had a chart showing that under Trump, wages outpaced inflation by 7.6 percentage points – despite a year of COVID. Under Biden, wages are only 0.2 percentage points higher than inflation – even though Trump left Biden a clear path to reopen the U.S. economy. No wonder Biden was losing even before his disastrous debate. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/07/18/trump-biden-economy-charts-compare/

The man who led populism to victory in the GOP and built the strongest economy any of us have seen in many years, is ready once again to return the government to the people. He didn’t get his power through backroom deals and leaks to the press: he got it by going to the voters and convincing them his policies would work – and by backing up his words with action. He has turned the Republican Party into a diverse and optimistic coalition of populists and conservatives who are ready to fix our economy, rebuild our defenses, and make America great again. Whether he faces a Joe Biden – who the media has told us is incompetent – or a Kamala Harris (who the media has also told us is incompetent) – or someone else they anoint through a fake “mini-primary” — President Trump is clearly the man for the moment.
