Hugo Gurdon Exposes Media Spin on President Trump’s Meeting with Zelensky

President Donald Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sent the left into a frenzy, with Democrats and the media distorting what really happened in the Oval Office. But as Washington Examiner editor in chief Hugo Gurdon explained on Fox Report, the truth is far more revealing than the partisan spin.

Gurdon Breaks Down Diplomatic Tensions and Political Narratives

Gurdon, appearing on Fox Report on Sunday, laid out how Zelensky seemed to be getting along better with European leaders than he had with President Trump. But there was a reason for that, he explained—European elites and their allies on the international left saw an opportunity to use the moment to undermine both Trump and the United States. Instead of focusing on how to bring an end to the war, many seemed more interested in taking political shots at the president.

Gurdon pointed out that while Trump was open to reviewing a British and French-led peace deal, the key issue remained U.S. security commitments—a point of contention that has fueled much of the left’s criticism of his approach. He also dismantled the media’s claim that the Oval Office meeting was an ambush, calling it a mischaracterization designed to push an anti-Trump narrative.

Political Maneuvering and the Search for Leverage

Host John Scott then pressed Gurdon on whether all sides shared some responsibility for the tense exchange. Gurdon agreed that President Trump, Zelensky, and Vice President JD Vance all played a role but rejected the left’s attempt to paint Trump as “pro-Russia.” Instead, he explained that Trump was trying to position himself as a mediator, pushing both sides toward a negotiated resolution rather than engaging in endless, unquestioning support for Ukraine.

Gurdon further noted that Democrats were actively encouraging Zelensky to challenge President Trump, hoping to box him in politically. This, he argued, was part of a broader strategy to keep the Ukraine war narrative alive as a way to attack Trump rather than genuinely seek a resolution.

Looking ahead to President Trump’s upcoming address to Congress, Gurdon predicted he would highlight his early policy victories, from issuing over 100 executive orders to tackling border security. He pointed out that Trump’s actions, including supporting Elon Musk’s efforts to root out government waste, remain extremely popular with voters—something Democrats and their media allies are scrambling to counter.

As the left tries to spin the Trump-Zelensky meeting into a political liability, Gurdon’s analysis on Fox Report made one thing clear: President Trump isn’t playing their game. Instead, he’s focused on delivering results, whether in Ukraine or at home. And with momentum on his side, Democrats are quickly running out of options.
