CNN and NBC Polls Show Dems’ Favorability at Record Low—Party in Need of a Reboot

Two devastating new polls from CNN and NBC News confirm what many Democrats fear: the party is in urgent need of a reboot as its favorability sinks to historic lows. Facing deep internal divisions and voter frustration, Democrats are struggling to mount a unified opposition to Donald Trump, while their own base demands a stronger fight.

According to CNN’s latest poll, only 29% of Americans view the Democratic Party favorably—the lowest figure in over 30 years of CNN polling. By contrast, the Republican Party holds a 36% favorability rating, highlighting a 20-point drop for Democrats in just four years. CNN host Manu Raju noted that 57% of Democratic voters want their leaders to prioritize blocking the GOP agenda, while 42% prefer bipartisan compromise—a sharp departure from where the party stood in 2017.

NBC News’ latest poll delivers an even harsher verdict: only 27% of registered voters have a positive view of the Democratic Party, the lowest recorded in NBC polling since 1990. Even more alarming, just 7% say their view is ‘very’ positive. Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates didn’t mince words: “With these numbers, the Democratic Party is not in need of a rebrand. It needs to be rebooted.”

The NBC poll also reflects growing discontent within the party following Trump’s latest victory, with Democratic voters demanding more aggressive opposition. Meanwhile, internal chaos—such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s controversial decision to let a GOP-led funding bill pass without concessions—has only deepened the fractures.

With their brand collapsing and voter frustration at an all-time high, Democrats face a harsh reality: without a serious course correction, they risk further political freefall.
